On December 23, the Belyaevo gallery of the Moscow Exhibition Halls Association will host the grand opening of the anniversary exhibition Genius in a Skirt.
Nadezhda Lamanova is a legend in the world of fashion and theater, holder of the title "Supplier of the Court of His Imperial Majesty", the first Russian fashion designer of the Land of Soviets. A host of great Russian princesses, outstanding actresses, famous writers, artists and directors surrounded her like an aura of greatness. In 1925, Nadezhda Lamanova became the only winner among Russian creators of the post-revolutionary period, the Grand Prix "for national identity combined with modern fashion trends" at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts and Art Industry in Paris. The year of publication of the work "Theory of Industrial Modeling" was also triumphant for her. The fame and recognition of the genius of Nadezhda Lamanova is largely associated with her innovative ideas, which served as the basis for the formation of the art of design in Russia.
The exhibition "Genius in a Skirt" includes five sections: "Palace", "Theatrical", "Revolutionary", "Stars to the Star!" and "Documentary". The core of the exposition is made up of unique exhibits - dresses made by Nadezhda Lamanova from the collections of the Museum of Moscow and the Museum of the Moscow Art Theater. Private collectors Tatyana Abramova and Olga Izvolskaya will provide authentic pre-revolutionary dresses belonging to the House of Lamanova. Modern reconstructions of the famous toilets "Genius in a Skirt" will be carried out by 20 Russian designers, embroiderers, lace makers, among them Elena Suprun, Elena Shepilova, Elena Elanzh and Victoria Yazarova.
In the section of the exhibition "Stars to a Star!" leading designers are taking part: Vyacheslav Zaitsev (SLAVZAITSEV), Tatyana Parfenova, Egor Zaitsev (YeZ by Yegorzaitsev), Anastasia Romantsova (LRUSSE), Katya Leonovich (USA), Oleg Ovsiev (VivVox), Igor Gulyaev (IGOR GULYAEV) VictoriAndreyanova), Sergey Efremov (EFREMOV Fashion House), Elena Makashova (designer “HakaMa Dress Studio”), Seredin & Vasiliev. So they will express their love and gratitude to Nadezhda Lamanova.
The exposition presents photographs and documents from the funds of the Bakhrushin State Theater Museum, the Mayakovsky State Museum, the Elisabeth-Sergiev Educational Society, the State Hermitage, the Cultural Observatory magazine at the Russian State Library, the Russian State Historical Archive, the State Archive of the Russian Federation, the Central Archive Moscow, the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art.
The continuation of the exhibition will be a series of master classes and lectures, which will be held from January to February 2017. An electronic catalog of the "Genius in a Skirt" exhibition will be prepared.
Special film screenings are planned within the framework of the exhibition: "Aelita", "Circus", "Alexander Nevsky", where you can see the main characters in costumes from Lamanova, as well as a documentary film by Natalia Kozlova, released in 1994 by the "Magic of Fashion" program.
The curator of the exhibition is Natalia Kozlova, an international columnist and fashion historian.
