For a long time, many girls strive to look more tanned at any time of the year, not only in summer, and it is in the fall that they crave to maintain their skin color, resorting to an unnatural tanning method. Tanning salons come to their aid in this: different technologies, parameters and type. But is such a procedure really so safe? Irina Nefedova, dermatologist, cosmetologist of the TsIDK network of clinics, will tell you about the most common myths about the tanning bed and its real effect on the body.
Myth 1: The time spent in a tanning salon is equal to the time spent in the sun.
To dispel this myth, you need to understand what the sun's rays are by type of radiation: UVA, UVB and UVC. The first ones penetrate into the deep layers of the skin and cause photoaging, sometimes pigmentation, the second ones reach the upper layers of the epidermis, and the third ones do not reach the surface of the globe at all. When going to a solarium, a person is exposed to UV rays, and in a very large dose. Stronger radiation is designed to help the skin darken quickly, so 25 minutes of this procedure corresponds to several hours of exposure to direct light without SPF.
Myth 2: With a tan after a tanning bed, you can lie in the sun without protection.
Many assume that a first-time tanning in a specially designed environment will protect them from the risk of getting sunburned on vacation. Therefore, no sunscreen is used on arrival. However, this is not at all the case. Red skin is just one of the harmful effects of too much sun exposure. Perhaps, the girl will still be able not to get sunburned, however, due to the lack of SPF, solar radiation will affect the superficial and deep cells, which can lead to the appearance of pigmentation, loss of skin elasticity.
Myth 3: Solarium allows you to get vitamin D at any time of the year.
Vitamin D is one of the most essential vitamins in the human body. In the summer, it is produced independently: for this, it is enough to be in direct sunlight for 15 minutes a day (in this case, you can and should use protection). Its synthesis is facilitated by UVB radiation, and, as mentioned above, UVA is used in tanning salons. Accordingly, this procedure does not help in the production of the vitamin. A specialist from the CIDK network of clinics advises getting the necessary trace elements from food: dairy products, fish.
Solarium helps heal skin rashes
Many people confuse acne treatment with light and a trip to a solarium. However, in clinics, not ultraviolet light is used for treatment, but the rays of the visible spectrum, which give a gentle cleansing and a blue glow. Sunburn after a tanning bed will help mask the manifestations, but will not cure them, but will exacerbate them even more. Drying the skin will be a temporary result. It is better to fight acne together with professionals who will select the right care and advise procedures. For example, laser resurfacing and peeling.
A tanning bed is a popular way to achieve an even brown skin tone. Popular, but not the safest. Taking care of your body, it is better to give preference to the natural method of tanning (mandatory when using SPF) or self-tanning in order to avoid undesirable consequences in the future, since the tanning bed is still more harmful to our skin than it is useful and it is better to avoid it, and when you are under direct the sun's rays should not be avoided using sunscreen. After 50 years, any kind of tanning is not recommended.
