The main news of the upcoming season is the return of the costume. That very elegant ladies' suit, from which we managed to wean ourselves in recent years. Return of the suit.
More recently, following fashion, we had to abandon suits and jackets in favor of knitted cardigans and cashmere twos. And suddenly, like a bolt from the blue - in March, at the shows of the autumn-winter collections, most designers offered costumes.
The most real, thoroughbred, noble costumes. The history of ladies' costume developed in the XX century along a sinusoidal pattern. During periods of feminist storms that coincided with periods of economic recovery, the suit always came to the surface. This was the case in the 50s with their very expensive fashion, in which the demonstration of tailor's art played a primary role. So it was in the 80s, when women won back men's positions in business and competed with men in everything - down to the width of the shoulder.
It all started with the inauguration of Ronald Reagan, who was always next to the faithful Nancy in a suit perfectly fitted on her fragile figure. In the same year, the news of the engagement of Lady Diana Spencer, who received congratulations in a bright blue suit, went around all the magazines.
The eighties became the era of the totalitarian rule of the costume. But the nineties, in their anti-bourgeois fervor, categorically rejected the suit. Today, in the era of nostalgia for the rich and happy 80s, the costume is back in fashion. It has become softer and more feminine, it no longer looks exclusively for business women. It can be worn with fur accessories - muffs and detachable collars, with tiny lace tops or colorful turtlenecks.
Today, the suit symbolizes a return not to businesslike severity, but to charming femininity.
And this is a change for the better:)
