On May 16-18, Voronezh hosted the final events of the XII International Festival of Fashion and Design "Provincial Style", the central event of which was a competitive show of young fashion designers.
Despite the fact that the festival, which is one of the projects of the National Academy of the Fashion Industry and supported by Tatyana Mikhalkova's Russian Silhouette Charitable Foundation, has a rich history, many events took place there for the first time.
For the first time, the festival was held on the site of the City Park Grad shopping and entertainment center, and the organizers were not mistaken with the venue: the participants had at their disposal an equipped dressing room with an area of 600 sq. M. m.; a spacious atrium accommodated over a thousand spectators; a 16-meter podium was prepared for the defile; all rooms were well cooled and ventilated (it was 40-degree heat outside); many shops located in the City Park Grad became partners of the festival and offered their prizes, and the Voronezh Oceanarium opened its doors to the participants and experts of the “Gubernskiy Style”.
For the first time in the history of the competition, fashion designers from Voronezh Olga Neretina and Natalya Pogorelskikh received the main prize, their men's collection "Someone New" was nominated for the National Fashion Industry Award "Golden Spindle" for the 2015 season (the designer and his mentor receive 300 thousand rubles). Prior to this, the grand prix of the festival went to Donetsk, Ivanovo, Yaroslavl, Kursk, Kirov and Shakhty. And the two-time winner of the festival, Yulia Kukhol, became the owner of the National Fashion Industry Prize.
For the first time in one of the nominations of the competition show, the victory was won by the fashion designer from the People's Republic of China Cao Xin-Wen, who presented a collection in casual style - "Arhat". Provincial Style has a long and strong relationship with the China Fashion Association. Association President Li Danchin and its general secretary, Tsu Sanfang, attended the festival in Voronezh; every year, among the experts of the festival, there are Chinese colleagues, and young designers exhibit their work. This season, Wang Si-Yuan (Green Wind collection) and Wen Meng-Zao (Uncrowned collection) from Chengzhou University of Technology presented interesting works. With the help of simple forms and unobtrusive references to national colors, shapes and patterns, they managed to create excellent modern collections with a clear Chinese flavor.
The competition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Lermontov and the Year of Culture in Russia brought together 280 participants from 31 regions of Russia, China and Germany, who presented 109 collections. For the first time in its history, fashion designers from Ukraine did not participate in it due to the difficult situation in their country. 35 educational institutions of Russia sent their delegations to Voronezh, representatives of partner fashion projects arrived: Pygmalion (Vladivostok), Fashion Magic (Blagoveshchensk), Pulse Fashion (Vladikavkaz, Costume at the turn of the epochs (Yaroslavl), “Podium” (Rostov-on-Don), “Simbirsky style” (Ulyanovsk) and others. “Provincial style” remained true to its strategy - the support of designers from the Russian provinces, and received designers from small towns: Kemertau, Yelets, Shakht, Shadrinsk, Shchekino, Ust-Labinsk and others.
The jury, headed by the patriarch of Russian fashion Vyacheslav Zaitsev, was generous with praise. Vyacheslav Mikhailovich himself gave an unprecedented number of excellent marks - 29 designers (or almost 30% of collections) received the highest marks from an outstanding Russian fashion designer. Due to the significant number of strong collections, the jury decided to award three thirds, two second and one first places in each nomination.
The victories in their nominations were won by:
Cao Xin-Wen (Chengzhoub, China) - collection "Arhat", nomination "Pret-a-porter";
Tatyana Pyanykh (Kursk) - collection "Universal format", nomination "Business idea";
Angela Akhba (Krasnodar) - collection "Mainstream", nomination "Ethnostyle";
Ekaterina Li (Ust-Labinsk) - collection "Chelates KS G-X", nomination "Creative";
Maria Petrova (Ulyanovsk) - Turn It Up collection, Debut nomination

Anzhela Akhba (Krasnodar), Daria Matsegora (Ivanteevka) and a representative of the "De lux" fashion theater (Maykop) were invited to an internship at the SlavZaitsev Moscow Fashion House.
Olga Neretina, Natalia Pogorelskikh, Ekaterina Li and Maria Shaitanova were sent to the International Competition of Young Fashion Designers "Admiralty Needle" (St. Petersburg). The winners and prize-winners of the "Provincial Style" also received invitations to the contests "Generation next", "Podium", "Suit at the turn of the epochs", "Eco-mode in Kazachy" and others. Festival partners presented their prizes and gifts to the winners.
Special diplomas were awarded to works saturated with Lermontov's aesthetics, variations on the theme of epaulettes, Circassian princesses and the image of a "hero of our time".
The collection that made a splash at the festival was the foam “Aliens”: a group of designers from Irkutsk - Anna Nosova, Anna Vernigova, Irina Zavyalova and Irina Sklyanova - presented costumes in the form of amazing animals made without a single thread.
The bearded women on the catwalk came as a surprise to the audience - the collection "Beard Conquers Cities" was presented by the designer from Yelets Dasha Sobova. Moreover, according to her, this image has nothing to do with the winner of Eurovision - the bearded woman Conchita Wurst: he was born a few months before the sensational finale of the show.
Head of the Council of Consultants of the Gubernsky Style Festival, Professor Viktor Kuzmichev, the representative of Russia at the Chinese Fashion Week and the representative of the Chinese Fashion Association in Russia, defining the future prospects of the project, suggested holding an avant-garde fashion competition at the festival with the possible name “Fashion Big City”. “The creative component of the“Provincial style”is very, very good, and after 12 years you need to think about structuring it. There is not a single competition for creative youth clothing in our country. But this is an indicator of the development of bold, avant-garde thinking. Voronezh can pull this sphere on itself. In China, for example, there is the All-China competition of avant-garde solutions in clothing "Chic", it attracts designers from all over the country, "said Viktor Kuzmichev.
Another of the new areas of work of the "Gubernskiy Style" will be the organization, in partnership with the National Academy of the Fashion Industry, of the Eco-Fashion Festival, which will be held on June 20-22 in the Zadonsky District of the Lipetsk Region.
The participants of the "Provincial Style" spoke about the prospects of its holding on May 18 at the ethnographic meeting "Cossack Supper" in the Zadonsk region, which became a real celebration of Russian-Chinese friendship.
New ideas and projects will have to be solved by the young leaders of the Gubernsky Style festival - Ekaterina Rebezha (Kursk), Stepan Kazyavin (Moscow), Denis Chekhonatsky (Lipetsk), who have taken over the work of holding the current festival. The organizing committee of the "Provincial Style" invites all designers to gain experience in art and fashion management in organizing both the selection rounds of the "Provincial Style" in their cities, and in holding its final on May 15-17, 2015.
Next season, the organizers plan to saturate the educational program with lectures and seminars on fashion management and marketing. At the last festival, Professor Viktor Kuzmichev gave a lecture on the topic “New Trends in Modeling and Designing Clothes”.
Announcing the "Provincial Style - 2015", the producer of the festival Nikolai Sapelkin and the chairman of the jury Vyacheslav Zaitsev said that a surprise from all three generations of the Zaitsev dynasty could await its participants and spectators.
PS The organizers of the “Provincial Style-2014” would like to thank City Park “Grad”, the National Academy of the Fashion Industry, the Moscow Fashion House SlavZaitsev, the Russian Union of Textile and Light Industry Entrepreneurs, the Russian Silhouette Charitable Foundation, Angstrem and RusLine companies, "Expo Event-Hall", ruNail professional jewelry house "ADAMAS", network magazine about fashion "Intermod", Voronezh State Professional and Pedagogical College, Confectionery Factory "Knyazev", City Center for Professional Education, Voronezh Oceanarium, boutique hotel "Vetryakov" and all others for their support and assistance in holding the festival.
