This year is marked by a number of important fashion photography exhibitions, which, as sources of inspiration, will have a great influence on the creation of collections of fashion brands. The famous fashion analyst Alexander Khilkevich talks about the expositions that should be paid attention to in the first place:

1. An interesting exhibition that must be viewed not only by fashion professionals, but also by everyone involved in socio-cultural analysis. Her theme is the changes in the world that prompted fashion to go beyond the limits of photography studios. On the example of 150 unique photographs taken from 1900 to 1970, the history of the emergence of new photo genres is shown - from the first fashionable street photographs to fashion photography in the most exotic places in the world.

Until March 8, Huis Marseille, Amsterdam

2. The largest exhibition of the surrealist photo artist Dora Maar, organized last year at the Center Pompidou in Paris, has now moved to London. In the 1930s, Dora Maar was a prominent figure in the European art scene: she worked with Man Ray, posed for Picasso, experimented with new visual techniques and photo collage techniques.

Until March 15, Tate Modern, London

3. A wonderful photo exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum continues. She focuses on the always recognizable works of Tim Walker, the main fashion storyteller of our time. The photographer not only shows his famous and new photographs, but also builds a dialogue between them and artifacts from the world of decorative art, which are more than 500 years old.

Until March 22, Victori & Albert Museum, London

4. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Helmut Newton. In honor of the legendary fashion photographer, a retrospective of his work was held at the Turin Gallery of Contemporary Art. The exhibition features 70 of the artist's most famous photographs from the 1970s to 2000, when fashion was politically beautiful and creative.

Until May 3, GAM, Turin

5. Provocative plots and unexpected angles are the hallmark of Guy Bourdin's work. 50 of the most recognizable photographs of the famous French photographer from the 1950s-1980s will be presented at his retrospective in Moscow. Whether it was a commercial shoot or an order from a fashion magazine, Guy Bourdin has always uncompromisingly defended his right to creative freedom. From February 28 to May 17, Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography, Moscow

6. Several exhibitions dedicated to the work of Peter Lindbergh are taking place this year. At the exhibition in Düsseldorf (until June 1, Kunstpalast), 140 of his best works are presented. The legendary photographer personally chose the photographs for the exhibition, not knowing that this project would be his last: Lindbergh died in preparation for the exhibition last September.

After Düsseldorf, the exhibition will move to Hamburg (June 20 - November 1). Also, the iconic images of Lindbergh can be seen at the Armani / Silos Gallery in Milan (February 22 - August 2).

7. The aesthetics of black and white photography is the focus of a grand exhibition in Paris. All the most famous trends and names from the 19th century to the present day will be presented - more than 300 works in total. Must see!

April 8 to July 6, Grand Palais, Paris

8. Man Ray and Fashion - an exhibition on this topic, organized last year in Marseille, is now moving to Paris. Man Ray has worked with Poiret, Schiaparelli and Chanel. In the 1920s, thanks to his innovative techniques, clothing photography became a field for artistic experimentation, blurring the line between art and fashion.

April 9 to July 26, Musee du Luxembourg, Paris

9. This year Parisian Vogue celebrates its 100th anniversary. The Galliera Fashion Museum, which is now opening after a large-scale reconstruction, where a permanent exhibition will now be arranged, will devote its first exhibition to this particular anniversary. The shots of renowned photographers with whom Vogue has collaborated will be presented in the company of couture outfits from the collections of famous designers.

November 2020 to February 2021, Palais Galliera, Paris

10. The year will end on a high note. The Hermitage in the Great White Hall of the General Staff Building will host an exhibition of the famous 20th century photographer Cecil Beaton. Beaton took pictures of the most famous people of his time, with many of whom he was friends, it is not surprising that during his lifetime the photographer himself acquired the status of a star. A special emphasis will be placed on the representatives of the Russian diaspora, who defined the world fashion culture and posed in front of Beaton's lens for photographic portraits.

From December 10, 2020 to March 14, 2021, Hermitage, St. Petersburg.
