November this year is rich in loud statements and ambitious projects of the defenders of the green world. At first, Vivienne Westwood advised the world to eat less in order to be enough for organic food, then Liberty decided to dress the homeless in furs. Lily Cole unveiled a series of wild rubber sneakers at the Brazilian Embassy yesterday. For several months, the model and actress, according to her, spent researching the production and economic possibilities of using natural raw materials mined in the Amazon jungle for the production of not only shoes and jewelry, but also much more specific rubber-based products - condoms.
Lily Cole believes that society is ready and must take an active part in saving rainforests, not by strikes and protests, but by the development of a new sector of the economy. According to her plan, by encouraging the crafts of the indigenous population of the region and buying raw materials and semi-finished products from them, it is possible to create a new production base that, over time, will be able to compete with factories supplying more familiar vulcanized rubber - not so durable, and much less green. Cole intends to demonstrate the success of this journey with his own example: a series of sneakers, created by her in collaboration with designers from Sky Rainforest Rescue and suppliers of natural rubber Veja, is already available on Impossible.com
- I do not intend to agitate someone to do charity - says Lily Cole (Lily Cole), - I want to do a business that will help solve social and environmental problems, which is why I spend so much time and effort to support it. I haven’t been on the catwalk for a long time and now I am more than far from the world of fashion, but I intend to return in order to see how this can help in promoting a new system of values, a correct understanding of fashion and production.
