The result of a three-year collaboration between the British company The Rug Company and the Alexander McQueen brand is a capsule collection of carpets and pillows, presented on December 7 at the residence of the British Ambassador on Sofiyskaya Embankment. This is not the first time The Rug Company has collaborated with high-profile Fashion Houses, with exclusive designer collections featuring home accessories by Marni, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith, Matthew Williamson and many more.
Each piece in the collection is painstakingly handcrafted, each with a signature Alexander McQueen style. The black rug with gold embroidery originates from Alexander McQueen's 2001 collection, when McQueen introduced the famous Imperial-military-style brocade coat. The pillows, which take up to 14 weeks to create, are embellished with feathers, skulls, and heavenly hummingbirds - the designer's favorite prints. The collection was brought to the Russian capital by Trino Vercade, the author of all the interior collections of Alexander McQueen, who has worked with him since the beginning of his career.
Lee Alexander McQueen was named the best British designer four times, was awarded the Honorary Order of the British Empire, in 1997 replaced John Galliano as art director of Givenchy House, from which he left in 2001, founding the Alexander McQueen brand. After the suicide of Alexander McQueen in February 2010, Sarah Burton, winner of the British Fashion Awards 2011 in the nomination "Designer of the Year", became the creative director of the Alexander McQueen brand.
The Alexander McQueen interior collection can be found in London's Harrods and Holland Park, Worcester Street in New York, Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles and other The Rug Company showrooms.
