For six years in a row, the organizers of the project - the publishing house PROfashion and the international textile company Tkani Prestige - have been helping novice designers and young professionals to believe in their own strength and make their first successful steps in the fashion industry.
All these years, the theme of the competition has remained unchanged: participants are invited to develop an author's collection of outerwear. Applications from students and graduates of specialized universities, young specialists and creative teams are accepted for consideration. The first stage is sketch. In order to convey their idea well, the contestants need to pay great attention to the drawing technique, elaboration of constructive lines, detailing and imagery. Every year the organizers of PROfashion Masters receive about two hundred applications from designers from different cities of Russia and abroad, and then the attentive jury of the competition, consisting of industry professionals, selects the ten best collections. To participate in the final, which is being held as part of the largest industry exhibition CPM - Collection PremiereMoscow, the competition collection must be made in materials and brought to Moscow.
PROfashion Masters is a unique competition that provides participants with direct communication with manufacturers, buyers and press representatives. In fact, the Test Project is an ordinary situation from the everyday life of an industrial designer. That is why the project is addressed primarily to students and graduates: for them it is a unique opportunity to try their hand at industrial design, get useful contacts, get an invitation for an internship and employment. Promising students and graduates of the British Higher School of Design, the Russian State University named after Kosygin, the Institute of Business and Design and many other higher and secondary educational institutions regularly take part in PROfashion Masters.
“My students and I participate in design competitions, often and a lot,” says Varvara Andreeva, Associate Professor of the Costume Design Department of the Institute of Business and Design, a member of the PROfashion Masters panel of judges. “Thanks to this, students gain a lot of experience not only in the profession, but also in self-organization. It is very important to learn how to work in a team, with models, directors and competing colleagues, to understand the peculiarities of preparing your creation for public presentation, to see the collection from the outside in order to make adjustments if necessary”.
