The results of the III International Festival of Art and Design "Ethno-2014", which is annually held in Omsk with the support of the National Academy of the Fashion Industry, have been summed up. It was attended by representatives of leading Russian and foreign design schools, conceptual artists, photographers, video art masters, hairdressers and make-up artists, who showed more than 200 works in various competitive nominations.
As the director of the festival Emma Vasilyeva noted, the Ethno Festival of Art and Design has been held annually in Russia since 2012 at the initiative of the renowned Omsk School of Design and the curator of fashion projects, the famous fashion analyst Alexander Khilkevich. As part of the event this year, the Costume Competition, the Elite Design Competition (with an emphasis on the virtuoso couture techniques of hand decor), the Sketch Competition, the Print Competition, the Illustration Competition, an educational program, and a theater performance in the style of ethno-futurism were held.
The jury of the festival was headed by the most authoritative expert of the country in the assessment and selection of collections, Alexander Khilkevich. In total, more than 40 people were awarded prizes, scholarships and valuable gifts, and the Grand Prix and a cash prize were awarded to Yulia Rusinova (Omsk) for the collection "Ashes and Snow".
According to Alexander Khilkevich, today the Ethno Festival in its direction is the largest in terms of the number of participants and the quality of work. Its main feature is a completely new reading of the ethnic theme. “We orientate designers to combine the possibilities of traditional crafts with new materials, modern technologies and current assortment. I would like to note the high professionalism in the execution of models, a lot of the finest hand-made work is presented, which brings the models of our designers closer to the level of objects of art,”the fashion guru emphasized.
