Samsonite fans have another chance to look at the brand's rich heritage. The Samsonite exhibition of vintage suitcases, timed to coincide with the company's 100th anniversary, will reopen to visitors. The unique exposition can be seen until October 29 at the Metropolis shopping center.
On the site of the Metropolis shopping center, a part of the main exhibition is presented, which will include a number of historical and modern Samsonite suitcases. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to take a short excursion into the history of luggage and see how much suitcases have changed over the hundred years of the company's existence.
The collections presented at the exhibition once made a splash and raised the luggage industry to a new level. The Samsonite Streamlite® suitcases, which first went on sale in 1941, put the company at the forefront of the market, and the Ultralite® collection launched in the 1950s ushered in a new era in luggage development. Models from the 1950s pioneered the use of an innovative material - compressed sheet magnesium combined with cast ethyl cellulose - that made heavy wood framing a thing of the past.
In the late 1950s, Samsonite began using ABS thermoplastic, which allowed them to develop the famous solid molded suitcase cases. The Silhouette collection made from this material became the best-selling collection of its time. Its main feature is the recessed mechanical parts, allowing to minimize damage to baggage during transportation, and the body, locks and joints of the parts are made in the same style.
Another interesting model on display was the Saturn®, the first injection molded polypropylene suitcase produced in the late 1960s. Its revolutionary design quickly gained popularity among hard luggage manufacturers.
The show also features the brightest and most original suitcases from the Samsonite Black Label premium line, created by Samsonite in collaboration with renowned designer Alexander McQueen. The Samsonite Black Label by Alexander McQueen collection will feature two models: the Hero suitcase, shaped like a human torso, and the Croc, with a crocodile-like texture. They have revolutionized the world of luggage - with their graceful lines and soft outlines, they look very impressive against the background of travel bags and suitcases of traditional styles.
In addition, at the exhibition you can see the main novelties of this year - the "golden" Cosmolite Gold suitcase, released specially for the 100th anniversary of the company. as well as the Cosmolite model in a deep purple color. The Cosmolite collection, launched in 2008, is one of the most striking and technologically advanced innovations of recent times. The collection was recently awarded the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for 'Best of the Best 2010'.
