A charity trip to Nepal changed the life of supermodel Carre Otis. Being among the poor emaciated people, she suddenly realized how stupid it is to voluntarily starve herself just to stay "in shape."

After this trip, in just a year, Otis gained 30 pounds. Now she is considered a "woman in the body", which for many models sounds like the most terrible sentence. But right now, Carre is happier than ever.

"I am very interested in watching other girls. Very often during the filming we take a break for lunch and in my heart I chuckle when I see exactly how my colleagues are eating," Otis admitted. At 5 pounds 10 inches and weighing 155 pounds, she looks like a real doll among overweight American women who usually wear size 14 (Otis is 12). However, among the models, she is considered a real fat woman.

Making such a decision was not at all easy for Carr. In her youth, she did not really think about the question of her own weight. However, by her own admission, it was 15 minutes of happiness when your 17-year-old body is in perfect shape and you don't need to do anything to support it. With age, I had to resort to more and more tricks to stay as thin as before.

The ideal figure from the point of view of fashion business demanded more and more sacrifices. Otis had to constantly go on diets. The requirements for its weight in front of various advertising companies were especially toughened. “I completely stopped eating, I just drank water and coffee,” the model admits, “when we talked about diets, we absolutely did not think about how they would affect our health. It was a real obsession - how to stay very, very thin and fit sizes to the clothes that designers tried on me."

Of course, it was not without cocaine and diet pills, which helped to lose weight. But the older she got, the less all the old tricks and techniques worked. It was getting harder and harder to keep fit. The girl plunged into the abyss of drug addiction and digestive disorders, and so it went on year after year. Once she even tried to commit suicide. The situation was aggravated by her unsuccessful marriage. Actor Mickey Rourke turned out to be not at all a handsome prince who could make up the happiness of any woman.

The trip to Nepal turned out to be the very impetus that changed the inner worldview of Carre. She has been practicing Buddhism since she was 17 and has always dreamed of going to the Himalayas. Last year, the model joined the Medicine for Nepal humanitarian group, which delivered food and medicine to Kathmandu, the capital of the mountainous state.

Otis saw starving women with children in their arms, whom they could not support. She saw hungry children, beggars, orphans with congenital deformities who had nothing to eat.

And on the day of her 32nd birthday, she finally realized that she was just obsessed with a strange idea that broke her life, made her completely insane and made her starve, when these people would give everything for a piece of rice cake. Her charity work made the model feel like she was at least trying to give something back to the world that had given her so much.

In the nearest plans of the model - new trips to Nepal and a lot of work aimed at educating young people. Carre wants to show young girls how dangerous their obsession with a perfect figure is and what this can lead to. At the moment, Otis is back to work. She no longer uses drugs, feels completely healthy, and fashion magazines are happy to invite the model to pose for their covers. She works for normal women, with normal weight and is very pleased with herself.
