What would Sigmund Freud say if great artists became his patients?

On February 10, ARTPLAY will open a new multimedia exhibition "Passion for Freud", which will take the viewer to the "dark side" of famous artists. Visitors to the exhibition will see the seductive innocence and cold-blooded violence, the horror of birth and the joy of death, the body as an object of admiration and desire and the wandering of human consciousness outside the body. A crazy mix of modern music and classical paintings by Egon Schiele, Francois Boucher, Edgar Degas, Pierre Bonnard and Nabi, Aubrey Beardsley, Edvard Munch, Harmenszoon Van Rijn Rembrandt, Francisco Goya, Peter Paul Rubens, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, Michelangelo Buchelo, Gustav Climelo Titian, Sandro Botticelli, Sebastiano del Piombo, Lucas Cranach, Heinrich Fussli, Adolphe and William Burgo will help everyone discover their own unconscious desires.

Despite the fact that Sigmund Freud himself called himself an amateur in art, he devoted an entire book to the study of this topic - "The Artist and the Fantasy". A work of art for Freud is primarily a manifestation of the unconscious. He writes: “We must feel those affects of the artist, the special state of his psyche, that which stimulated him to a creative act. (…) Maybe the great works of art do not need special analysis? And yet the work must admit of such an analysis, as long as it is an expression of the artist's intentions and emotional movements that affect us."

The Freudian Passion exhibition is the first project of Artplay Media, which is not dedicated to individual artists (Bosch, Michelangelo or Van Gogh), but to the theme of corporeality and sexuality. The exhibition tells about those high feelings and low desires that are inherent in every person and shows the history of violence and attraction through the prism of the human body.

The project explores the work of artists through psychoanalysis, as Sigmundt Freud did in his work The Artist and the Fantasizing. This story is consonant with everyone who falls in love and breaks up, who will test the strength of their relationship and try to find the boundaries of their sexuality.

This time, the creators of the exhibition did not confine themselves to just rethinking the works of old masters. Especially for the exhibition, a video was shot with the participation of the countermodel agency Lumpen, which promotes a model appearance that is not classic for the industry. These videos will become part of the multimedia content. And in the front hall you can see a photo exhibition reflecting on the theme of corporeality with the participation of the same models.

The Freud Passion project also includes contemporary Russian literature. In the multimedia hall, viewers will hear a voice-over, consisting of excerpts from various works by Igor Yarkevich. The text is read by the actor of the Theater of Nations Vladimir Eremin. It is in his voice that Al Pacino speaks in all films dubbed into Russian.

The multimedia part of the project is divided into 7 short stories: "Intro", "Innocence", "Love", "Violence", "Flesh", "Death" and "Sleep", each of which explores the theme of corporeality in its own way.
