The British Higher School of Art and Design hosted a lecture by STEPHANIE LANGARD, a French designer, art director and artist, on the topic “Subject Design: Creating Art Objects with Meaning”. Stephanie belongs to a family of French artisans, whose experience is passed down from generation to generation: continuing to follow traditions and multiplying the creative ties of her family, Stephanie works in the industry with the best French manufacturers. The rich experience of the craftsmen in working with wood, metal, glass, porcelain, leather and other materials serves as a reliable support for her design projects.

Stephanie graduated from the High School of Fine Arts in Reims (ESAD), studied in Los Angeles (Art Center College of Design) and Milan (Domus Academy). Her journey into the world of design began with the interiors of retail spaces. In particular, she designed and implemented the interior of the Sarrieri flagship lingerie store in Paris and created the only concept hairdressing salon in Paris, Barbière de Paris. After a series of such projects, she realized that she was no longer able to resist the desire to return to her real passion - for art. In parallel with the interior design, Stephanie started working on conceptual projects and art objects. Among them is the collection "Furniture of Tolerance" (Mobilier de Tolerance), which was presented at the D-Days festival in Paris. These are five itemscreated on the basis of studying the erotic behavior of a couple from the point of view of the emotional-sensual aspect of objects with meaning"

Stephanie's Moscow lecture was devoted to subject design - development, concept, philosophy and the intricacies of production. Stephanie talked about what the creative process consists of - from the moment of finding an idea to its implementation, and what inspires the artist to create objects of art and design. Stephanie also shared with the guests the experience of interacting with customers, the features of the implemented projects and answered questions about the components of a successful project.

Speaking about the specifics of French design, Stephanie noted: “In France, a clear and structured approach to organizing the work process is practiced - from developing an idea to finding ways of production. This is the foundation of any design project. The French are taught a detailed vision, every step on the way to implementation is important - that is why, looking at the sketch, I immediately imagine the strategy of implementation "from and to".

At the lecture, Stephanie revealed the secret of how a global trend is born: “It's no secret that from season to season, market experts form a certain portfolio with information on industry trends for the next 2 years. Thus, now we are talking about the trend of 2018: it will take shape at a niche level only in 2-3 years, and in 5 years it will be released to the masses. For me, as an artist, it is very important to “predict” this trend, “predict”, feeling its movement in time space and interpreting personal sensitivity to changes”.
